We Love Margaritas!

You know how there's always something you keep saying you are going to do but never really get around to doing it?
For us, making margaritas has been at the top of the list for a LONG time.
We love margaritas.. about as much as we love chips and salsa.
That's a lot.
So last night we decided to stop saying we're going to make margaritas but really do it.
And they turned out great!

Here's how to do it:
1. Buy 100% Agave Tequila and Cointreau

2. Get limes! More than this...

3. Salt is key. We like salt.

4. Use this recipe
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
Remember: A shot glass is 1.5oz
5. Add Ice

6. Drink Up!

Of course, we didn't just make margaritas.
We also made fish tacos, salsa and guacamole.
It was so good!

Laser Cats Love... Lasers

For some reason, over the years, I have assumed the reputation of the 'crazy cat lady' among friends.
Sure, I have two cats.
One was hit by a car and the other one has (feline) AIDS...
But I'm pretty sure 3+ cats is where one hits the 'crazy' threshold.
And unless I find a 40 pound cat I am not completing the trifecta.
Still, my brother thought it might be funny to keep this running joke going by buying every crazy cat lady's dream present - a cat laser.
Oh yeah, that exists.

Of course, I had to share video of my oh-so-fluffy cat Frankie (kinda) chasing the laser.
It's the most exercise she has had in years.
Looks like fun right!?!
I suggest cats owners invest.. it's hours of fun.. for the cat.
And while we're at it, I might as well share some of the hundreds of cat pics and gifs that have been shared with me over the years.
Now this is what I call fun!

Welcome to my world, world.

Birthday Weekend: Part 2

Today I am 27 years old and to be honest I'm a little surprised I made it, especially after this weekend. Our trip to Austin was above and beyond any amount of fun I could have ever hoped for.
We ate A LOT of Mexican food...
And walked around like tourists...
And spent many hours with some of the best people around.
One of the highlights of the trip was my first experience at The White Horse. OH MY GOSH! Anyone who knows me knows my affinity for country music and not that stuff they play on the radio either... I just want to hear George Jones all day everyday. Anyway, we met our friend Derek at the White Horse yesterday.
That place is awesome.
When we walked in it was so dark it took a minute for our eyes to adjust. It was a large room with a really long bar and a stage in the corner. The music was akin to something you may have heard in a smokey bar in Nashville in the 70's. It was right up my alley. And outside there were people selling vintage clothes - Winning!
Even better, Black Joe Lewis was one of them.
(If you don't know who that is, watch this)
What the heck Austin?!? Do you even realize how cool that is?
You probably do.
We had a lot of fun there and got to see a lot of folks we've been away from for far too long.
After The White Horse, we continued our reunion celebration with night swimming and general hijinks.
And my beautiful, amazing friends got me  presents!
Thank you Lauren, Dustin, Derin, David, Ben, Sarah, Julie and Alan. You guys made my birthday perfect in every way.

Birthday Weekend: Part 1

Hi friends!
This weekend Alan & I are hiding out in one of the hippest spots in Texas - Austin.

It's one of my favorite places on earth... Or as much of earth as I have seen.
In Austin, people eat tacos for every meal and many of them come out of food trucks. And there's live music on every street and in every bar. And you can feel free to wear whatever you want (i.e. overalls, neon spandex, ballerina tutu) because you will always see someone else wearing something even more ridiculous. Austin is REAL weird... And we like it that way.
But the thing I love most about this city is that it has served as the Georgia Pine (think 90's country) for a special group of people for many years.

Back in college, Alan & I were part of a radio station called KTXT in Lubbock, Texas. We were 88.1 on the dial and every bit of what you would imagine a college radio station to be. We liked music and weird clothes and being cooler than everyone else (or so we thought). When we weren't playing music on the radio we were building friendships we never realized would last so long.
(You can see Alan -orange blazer- looked pretty cool back then too)
So here we are nearly 10 years after I joined KTXT and I'm happy to report that everyone is doing amazing things with their lives. Last night, some of us got together at the Buzz Mill, including our friend David who lives far far away in New York and Jorge (you'll see a lot of him in future posts) who recently moved away from north Texas and back to the motherland, Lubbock.
(David 'The Stud' Ward)

It's so fun to see all of these faces again.
It would be even better if our little reunion included ALL of our friends from those days.. But that's what SXSW is for.
Ok, I have to log off now. Apparently we are here to have fun. So we're out!
Thanks for reading.

Valerie June

I may be a little late to the bandwagon (I usually am) but have you heard this girl!?!
I ran across Valerie June on NPR's website recently and I can't stop listening to her.
This song caught my attention:
Apparently Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys helped produced some tracks on her forthcoming Pushin' Against a Stone.
That combination of talent makes perfect since once you listen to this:

An Introduction to Our Blog

Welcome to our blog!
It's not much to look at now but we have big plans in mind.
Let me introduce ourselves.
We are Alan & Kim.
We live in Fort Worth, Texas where we like to hang out with cool people and listen to music and eat Mexican food.
Mainly, we eat a lot of Mexican food.
You can look forward to many posts about that and other things.
We also have a garden.
But don't ask us how to grow anything because we don't really know.

We hope you will check back soon!
